Back in Yakima - 2009-08-04

We just returned to Yakima on Saturday, August 1 after being gone for 38 days. It was a long time to be away, but we are glad to be back home. On June 25 my mother, Leola Merillat, passed away. She was 78 years old and a sweet mother. She suffered a massive stroke as she slept on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Although she was breathing...barely...my dad and brother could not wake her. She was transported to the Fulton County Health Center and on the way she quit breathing. When she arrived she was put on life support system as they performed their tests. The doctors concluded there was no hope for recovery. I flew home Wednesday afternoon and arrived at my mom's bedside after midnight Thursday morning. My sister Sue and I sat at her bedside until the rest of the family return the following morning. She was taken off the life support machines and 25 minutes later she passed away. I conducted her memorial service on Monday, June 29. It was a special time as other family members participated as well. We experienced God's peace because mom placed her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal savior. We spent the next several days supporting my father, attending General Conference (at Bethel College) and trying to enjoy some days of "vacation" (it did not seem like vacation!) I want to give special thanks to many people. Thank you to all the cards, letters, flowers and prayers from my Missionary Church family. Several representatives travelled over from Fort Wayne - President Bill Hossler, Bob and Donna Ransom, Greg and Sara Getz, Ron and Phyllis Phipps - to support us during this difficult time. Thanks to those in various churches who sent their support through emails, notes, cards and etc. We read and appreciated every note of encouragement and support!! A special thanks to the church where I am privileged to serve - the West Valley Missionary Church. They were very gracious to give me extended time to be with my family and to grieve! I am slowly getting back into the pattern of work again! Thanks for your patience. If there is something you need to discuss I encourage you to give me a call ASAP! Thanks!
